I am posting this on behalf of my brother, who is the owner of http://www.eightoctaves.com.

Today, when he and his other admin users tried to log in to the wp-admin page of the website, they were greeted with a default WP theme page, which I am guessing is because of the new update. What followed was this:

1. The admin users could not log in.
2. They re-registered either using New Password or getting in touch with the hosting site support.
3. After logging back in to the wp-admin panel, they see that all other users and all data is gone.

The website as of now has none of the content that has been built over the last few years. The hosting support guys say that the backup has not been taken as the data was beyond the inode limit.

I am just wondering, how we got into this mess in the first place. It all started with the wp-admin panel. Even if the admin page looked new, what would the admin users have done differently, other than to generate a new password to get in?

Can anybody please help? Can WordPress at least help with retrieving a backup of the content for the time being? Or any clues as to how this admin login issue would have led to data loss? Would appreciate it if I could be pointed in the right direction if I am in the wrong forum.

Many thanks.
