occoris on "Need scrollbar for blog list"

Alright so, I managed to cobble together a theme-
the thing is (and this is partly by design) the background image is only so tall. It's tall enough to scroll comfortably for most of my pages, but the posts page and individual blog posts are quite a lot longer-

What i would like is for the content box to remain variable UNLESS it hits a maximum height of about 1000px, at which time I'd like to see a scrollbar add itself to the content box.
I know that I can add the scrollbar manually to pages and posts, and have done so in the past, but my real issue is the blog. I've tried putting
height: 1000px;
overflow: auto;
under .entry-summary and all that does is make all of my pages 1000px tall (even if they don't need it) and while it adds scroll bars to individual posts on the blog page, it does nothing to reign in the recent posts at all.
(i also tried it under a couple promising looking .entry-content tags but it did absolutely nothing.)

blog is here: http://www.arthopping.com
(i apologize for what i imagine is atrocious code, wysiwyg pretty much the only way i can do things without murdering people.)
