Plummer on "Switching From Godaddy Shared To VPS"

So I am going to be switching from Godaddy shared hosting to a VPS to try and fix some problems that I am having. I am running a Wordpress site with a few plugins. The main plugin is YAK, that we use for selling our product. For the last 5 weeks or so we have been dealing with 500 Internal Server Errors. Now this only seems to happen on checkout, but it has also happened while in the backend of Wordpress. I know it's not a coding issue or permission issue because it does NOT happen 100% of the time. One week it will be fine and then the next week we will have the errors again. Keep in mind we only open one day a week (Tuesday) and usually stay open until sometime in the evening on Wednesday. The errors usually seem to happen within the first hour of opening then they seem to die down. Although they still seem to occur here and there. The whole site functions fine until the last stage of checkout. When customers press checkout SOME receive the 500 errors and some don't. So I know it can't be a coding issue because the error does not happen to everyone. It seems to be a server issue. My question for you is do you think switching to the VPS will stop these errors? Also the VPS is running FastCGI I have heard mixed things about FastCGI and Wordpress. Can someone tell me what the best thing would be to do?
